Welcome to the Advanced Photonics Research Lab’s homepage.
We are an international team of researchers that includes postdocs, graduate students and technicians. We aim to explore, demonstrate and utilize sub-wavelength light phenomena at the nano-scale for novel devices and applications in super-resolution imaging, focusing, spectroscopy and optical communication. Our research spans from basic science to device applications and includes modern techniques in Nonlinear Optics, Near-field microscopy and wave-front shaping. WE ARE ALWAYS INTERESTED IN ENTHUSIASTIC SCIENTISTS. Being a part of the Russell Berrie Nanotechnology Institute (RBNI), we can offer access to state-of-the-art facilities in optics labs, clean rooms, fabrication tools as well as scientific guidance and large-scale collaboration projects.
The group leader is prof. Guy Bartal of the department of Electrical Engineering at the Technion and the Russell Berrie Nanotechnology Institute (RBNI) . His previous scientific achievements (also as a part of a research team at UC Berkeley) include:
- Demonstration of negative refraction and negative index metamaterials. (These works were selected to be among the 50 best inventions of 2008 by TIME magazine.)
- Demonstration of cloaking device at optical frequencies.
- Demonstration of nano-scale lasing devices.
- Nonlinear negative refraction
- a 3D Hyperlens
